Lake Winnipesaukee is just over 44,000 acres with 253 islands and it is one of the three largest lakes in New England. Winnipesaukee is a year round destination with easy access to skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, biking, theater, concert venues. There are also major airports nearby in Manchester and Boston.

Alton

is at the southern tip of the lake. The town has easy access off Route 11 and 28 and has a population of around 6000 year round residents. In addition to being a major boating destination, winter snowmobiling is popular and you can get to Gunstock Ski area in about 15 minutes. There is a landing strip on the ice in the winter for those small plane enthusiasts. The town is serviced by a major grocery store and there are hospitals close by in Laconia and Wolfeboro. Wolfeboro

is the Oldest Summer Resort in the United States with a population of 6300 year round residents although the population swells in the summer months. Wolfeboro has a quaint downtown with shops and restaurants where you can spend the day. There is a grocery store in town, a hospital, a golf course and all the amenities of a small city, even a theater and museums. In addition to all the boating activities on the lake you have a bike trail, groomed cross country trails plus an active in town ski hill with a rope tow for family outings. In addition to the main attraction, Lake Winnipesaukee, you have Crescent Lake, Rust Pond and the very desirable Lake Wentworth. There are town, and state beaches on Lake Wentworth. Tuftonboro

is a rural town situated on Route 109 just north of Wolfeboro and south of Moultonborough. Tuftonboro also includes the villages of Tuftonboro Corner, Center Tuftonboro and Melvin Village. There is an artist community and a vibrant historical society in town and and a population of 2500 year round residents. Moultonborough

has miles of shoreline on Lake Winnipesaukee yet when driving through town you will never see the lake. Moultonborough is similar to Tuftonboro in that the majority of the town is a rural setting. There is a small town center with an old country store you must visit. The entire area is peppered with wonderful restaurants and small stores. Do visit Castle in the Clouds while you’re here. It is great location for hiking, history and lunch. The hospital is in Wolfeboro. There are grocery stores in Wolfeboro and Center Harbor. There is the wonderful Loon Preservation Society in Moultonborough which is well worth visiting. Center Harbor

is at the top of the lake and is the winter berth for the Mount Washington Cruise Ship. It has several miles of shoreline on Squam Lake and another mile on Lake Winnipesaukee where the actual harbor is located. The town has a year round population of just over 1000. In the town village you have a grocery store and several small shops and several great restaurants. Meredith

is the gateway town to Lake Winnipesaukee, “from here you can get there”. On one side of town you have Meredith Bay and to the west you have Lake Waukewan. The town has a year round population of just over 6000. Meredith enjoys exquisite lodging right on the lake. The town docks are busy with boaters coming to enjoy a day in town or going to one of the restaurants. In a short walk you are downtown visiting the many quaint shops. There is alot going on from the fishing derby , to “in water” boat shows, to the scenic railroad. There is a major grocery store in town and the hospital is 20 minutes away.
